Bled
With its emerald-green colour, Bled — the most beautiful natural lake in Slovenia, with its single island — simply called and lured us to visit it. Six hours by car from Belgrade, Slovenia’s most popular tourist destination welcomed us in full splendour, with fresh air and unreal scenery.
Bled began to develop tourism back in the 19th century, when the first bathing facilities and accommodation capacities were built. Since that time, programmes of various activities have been on offer — from water therapy and baths to healthy-eating programmes and a wide range of tourist offerings.
The peaks of the Julian Alps are reflected on the calm surface of the lake. In the church on the little island, which dates from the 16th century, hangs a bell believed to grant every wish. Another legend says that newlyweds will have a long and happy marriage if the groom carries the bride in his arms up the 99 steps to the church.
As if on a postcard, a medieval castle stands proudly on top of the cliff — Bled Castle, the oldest castle in Slovenia. It houses a museum, an old printing press, a wine cellar and a forge. A ride in a traditional wooden boat, or a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, are only part of Bled’s attractive tourist offering.
By all means do not miss tasting the famous Bled cream cakes (kremšnite) and enjoying the view of the swans that lend the lake a special charm.
In Dvorska vas, only 9 km from Bled, nestles Lambergh Castle, which is at the same time a designed boutique hotel. Reconciling the modern with the historical, while preserving elegance and refinement, the hotel offers its guests peace and quiet — in a word, the feeling of a count. While swimming in the pool, or relaxing in the jacuzzi, you will enjoy the view of Triglav.
Not far away are the Royal House and golf courses, where you can test your patience at individual or group golf lessons. Famous golf tournaments are played right there.
